Easter in Western Australia means Friday before and Monday after Easter is a public holiday (Four day weekends!). My neighbor decided to go sailing all weekend and I was lucky enough to join them for Sunday and Monday sailing on board the “Sprit of Jim” (Was supposed to be “Spirit of Jim” but there was a typo issue) to Garden Island.
The ocean surrounding Perth is littered with islands and small rock formations. The main three islands are Rottnest Island, Garden Island, and Carnac Island. Garden Island houses a naval base in the southern portion. The northern portion is recreational. Civilians can drive their boats and moor along the beach. There is a picnic area right off the beach as well.
